EV Charger Levels & Charging Speed
EV chargers come in three basic levels ranging from smaller home EV chargers that take hours to charge your EV to commercial supercharging stations that can give you up to 200 miles of range in 15 minutes or less.
Level 1 EV Chargers
Level one EV charger Installations are the most cost effective but also provide the slowest charging capacity. According to Chargepoint you can expect your level 1 ev charger to give you around 5 miles of range per hour. (RPH)
Level 2 EV Chargers
Level 2 EV chargers require more electrical capacity to install (240V) but will charge your electric vehicle much faster. The level two charger output varies between 18-28 miles of range per hour. (RPH) With a level 2 home EV charger you can expect most electric vehicles to be charged in 8 hours or less.
Level 3 EV Charging Stations
Level 3 EV charger stations are a big step up from their smaller counterparts and while they do have the fastest charging times they also come with the highest installation costs. Level 3 EV superchargers have a range per hour (RPH) of 75-1,200.
